Meet Jilalga
I am the sole creator behind this small business. My name is Jilalga Murray, I am a proud urban Aboriginal woman who has lived on Whadjuk Country for over 15 years. My ancestral ties are to the Nyangumarta people on my mother's side, Yorta Yorta, Wamba Wamba & Duduroa people on my father's side. I have been a visual artist & graphic designer for 25 years.
I grew up in Port/South Hedland in the Pilbara, close to where my Nan was taken away as part of the Stolen Generation. I have many fond memories of growing up in the Pilbara. My skin group is Karrimarra. I travel back to the Riverina, to be on Country with my family in VIC/NSW as much as possible. My family are survivors and I'm so proud of our shared history and their continued efforts. I hope I can make a difference in my family and to the wider community just as they have.

Over the years I've lived in South Hedland, Melbourne, Townsville, Cairns & currently Perth. With plenty of opportunity to travel and have great experiences as a child and an adult, it's helped shape the person I am today. I am a proud mother of three, who thrives on the challenges in life and in business.

I have immense pride for my family, heritage and Country, which are the foundations of my work as an artist. My art is inspired by my personal experiences and offers my unique view of Australia. Being at one on Country, guides my creative spirit. I have a deep respect for people, our common struggles and for our unique and diverse country we all call home. I love what I do, always pushing my own boundaries across a wide range of mediums, whilst staying true to myself.

At Jilalga Designs, I work with a wide range of mediums which assist
my visual storytelling. I specialize in creating original and unique pieces that reflect the essence of Aboriginal art and culture in a Contemporary way. I produce hand made, hand painted, digital &/or manufactured products that allow me to offer a range of products, suitable to a wide range of people & businesses.
I believe our traditional stories and markings should be protected and left for ceremonies and for those who've been given those cultural rights. Integrity is important to me, so I am proud to offer my unique Contemporary work which is ever evolving, with story & purpose.

As a proud urban Aboriginal woman and mum, my aim is to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the lands we all live, work & travel on.
My work will always be a reflection of me, who I am which includes where I descend from. My work is created with good spirit, integrity and of course with my own creative flare! I believe my work has the power to bring people together.
